Dating Safety for Online Dating

  1. When dating online, be honest, but don't give the other person too many details about your private life (phone number, license plate, credit card number, workplace) until you've actually met and you're reasonably sure he/she isn't a nutcase.
  2. Keep your address private until you're sure you want your online relationship to continue.
  3. Block your name and phone number if you're using a land line to make that first call. You can do this by pressing *67 before you make the call. Disengage the block by pressing *69.
  4. Meet in a public place for the first date. Don't go to remote places or the other person's home.
  5. Tell someone else (a friend, a family member) about your date, where and when you are meeting, and when you expect to be back.
  6. Keep the alcohol and recreational drug intake to a minimum.
  7. Finish your drink before you go to the restroom, or take it with you. Do not give someone you've just met a chance to slip something into your drink.
  8. Keep the flirting low key until you get to know your partner better.
  9. If your date suggests things you are not comfortable with, say "No" and mean it. Do not let yourself be manipulated.
  10. If your date has too much to drink, do not let that person drive under any circumstances. Crashes and DUI citations = Not Cool!
  11. If you don't feel comfortable with your date, politely but firmly excuse yourself and go home. By all means don't compromise your safety.
  12. We know you know this already, but we're going to say it anyway: If you're going to have sex, USE A CONDOM.
